Location: Punta Espinosa, Fernandina Island, The Galápagos
Stepping ashore in the early afternoon, we watched these marine iguanas basking on the young lava flow. The iguanas were oblivious to us, totally absorbed in catching the rays of the midday sun. There was an active surf, giving a cool breeze onshore. Our intrepid vessel, the Mary Anne, rested at anchor in the background.
