At the Giraffe Center just outside Nairobi, Kenya, I got up close and personal with a Rothschild giraffe. The center was founded to protect this species of giraffe, which reportedly has a wild population of only a few hundred. Several giraffes at the center have been rehabilitated and returned to Kenya’s national parks. Until then, they don’t seem to mind eating dried food pellets out of the hands—and lips—of visitors. It was sort of a sloppy kisser.
