From time to time, we get a chance to catch up on the whereabouts of our Trip Leaders when they’re not off guiding great adventures around the world. One of our expert leaders, Kevin Floerke, gave us a sneak peek into what he’s been up to between leading our Choquequirao: Trek to the Cradle of Gold and Bolivia! journeys.  Take a look at his awesome photos!

It’s been an eventful year since I last hit the trail with Wilderness Travel! Shortly after returning from South America, where I had the pleasure of leading two excellent groups on WT’s Choquequirao: Trek to the Cradle of Gold journey, I took my first leap into the continent of Africa.

Along the way, I had the privilege of discovering a few of the many vibrant and incredibly diverse cultural groups of East Africa for the first time in my life.

Sleeping under the stars in a tiny Maasai village, haggling over the price of a cow in a crowded market, and sailing on the Indian Ocean were just a few highlights of a nearly indescribable trip.

The adventures did not stop when I returned home. For Father’s day, I took my father on a trip to Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies, his first international trip in over a decade. Sharing a bit of my life as a travel photographer with my dad was a very special opportunity.

Speaking of special opportunities, this year my girlfriend, Shaina, and I decided we were ready to jump into van life! We purchased a used, converted Mercedes Sprinter camper van (affectionately named “La Llamita,” the little llama), packed up our things—and our dog Thor—and took off for a season of road tripping. It was during our maiden voyage when, on an isolated bluff outside of Zion National Park, I proposed and she said yes! Needless to say, we are beyond excited for a lifetime of adventures together, and I am thrilled to have another full summer of Wilderness Travel trips ahead of me! To those of you joining me in Peru and Bolivia this summer, see you soon! To the rest of you, I hope to see you out there, whether on the road or on the trail.
